The WeWork Alumni Fund
It’s been over 10 years since we founded WeWork Labs. Back then our goal was simply to create a place in that first WeWork location to support the NYC startup ecosystem and help early-stage founders. WeWork and WeWork Labs obviously became much more than that, and we were fortunate enough to work with (and in some cases, invest in) startups all around the world.
WeWork brought together some of the best talent across a ton of different industries so it’s no surprise that an incredible amount of amazing startups have been founded by WeWork alumni. Similar to the AirAngels syndicate, Jesse and I are creating a WeWork alumni rolling fund on AngelList that will invest in startups founded by WeWork alumni.
How will the rolling fund work?
Any past and present WeWork employees can join as LPs of the fund. LPs subscribe with quarterly commitments of capital and the minimum quarterly subscription amount is $5,000 USD. The minimum subscription period is 4 quarters ($20,000 on an annual basis). Each payment is due prior to the start of the quarter.
This is a fund made solely to support WeWork alumni. We (Jesse Middleton and Matt Shampine) will manage the fund, and we will take no management fees and no carry. We will be investing alongside you. AngelList does charge an annual .15% admin fee of contributed capital.
Jesse and I will meet and vet all WeWork alumni seeking funding. The standard investment with be between $10 and $20K per investment round.
If you are a WeWork alumni or know one that is fundraising for their startup, please have them contact us.
We will send out a summary on a quarterly basis on investments made by the rolling fund. We will also be using this Google Doc as an overall tracker for all WeWork alumni startups. Huge thank you to Matthew Dixon and Insong Kim for helping us keep it up to date.
